Have you ever read
A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller? Well, if you haven't, you should. It's a great book. It literally made me get out of my seat and want to do something with my life. This sounds strange but I am afraid of kayaking. I love boating and being outdoors but for some reason kayaking scares me. After reading about Miller's random decision to kayak the Jervis Inlet made me want to get out of my chair, buy a kayak, and conquer my fear. He showed me that anything is possibly as long as I am willing. Through his journey he was able to see amazing things that he would have not seen if he had not gone on the trip. God gave him the opportunity and Miller took it; I need to do that more when God gives me the opportunity.
Towards the end of the book Donald Miller had a phrase about "how brightly a better story shines" (248) and it made me think of Matthew 5:16 when Matthew writes "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Bob Goff (Miller's friend) and his family let God's light shine through them and it is evident to anyone who meets them. As a Christian I want my light to shine for everyone to see and in turn want my story to shine bright. I can do this by letting God be my everything and be more vocal. I have been working on this and it is harder than I thought. If I want to take the harder story however, then I need to show others how much I love Christ and what He has done in my life.
